The ultimate Producer. Performer. Practitioner. flex…

Last summer, I had the privilege of performing during the closing ceremony at Black Rock City’s Burning Man for the first time. My background in dance, tour management, and yoga helped me navigate one of the greatest experiences of my life. During this mini-tour, which included teaching at Tmrw.Tday in Algonquin, performing at Burning Man in the desert, and teaching at Camp Yoga, I was able to utilize all my skills – as a producer, I honed my organizational abilities; as a performer, I expanded my physical connection with a new element (fire); and as a practitioner, I applied the 8 Limbs of Yoga to move through the entire experience with balance and ease.

This is just a glimpse into my involvement in NMCA’s production at the Burn. Photos by Andrew Miller.

At a young age, Kaye was drawn to being a performer. Whether she was lip syncing to Stacy Lattisaw’s 1981 hit or throwing on her ballet leotard and gym socks to perform an impromptu show in her living room, she loved to be in front of an audience. Now, with countless shows under her belt, she’s graced stages locally and abroad with traditional Filipino folk dance troupe Folklorico Filipino Canada and with neo-Filipino folk dance group Hataw Performing Arts as a principal dancer.

Throughout Toronto, Canada and in a 2020 tour in Asia, with “Kasa“, Kaye has shared her attraction to the aerial hammock, flare for fan dancing, and skillful shape shifting at events and parties alongside acro partner, Sam Wright.

Practitioner.

Proudly Filipina-Canadian and the founder of Ashtaerial, Kaye’s journey with yoga started with hot yoga and soon became a regular self care practice. She found that yoga opened the door to mindfulness and a connection back to her body, which motivated her to help others discover the same benefits. She pursued her education and became a certified yoga teacher, starting at Balance Life Yoga in Ajax, ON, then swiftly obtaining her certification as an aerial yoga teacher through Zero Gravity Aerial Yoga and P3 Yoga in Pickering. She further enhanced her skills by studying at Kranti Yoga School in Goa, India, and shortly after exploring the traditional practice of Ashtanga under the guidance of Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. Her areas of expertise include Vinyasa, Aerial, Pre & Postnatal Yoga, Acro Yoga, Yin & Restorative Yoga, and she recently added Functional Range Conditioning to her list of certifications.
